Useful documentation answers three questions: what exists, where it is, and who depends on it.
At minimum, record WAN details, firewall model, switch names, VLANs, IP ranges, DHCP scopes, WiFi SSIDs, admin access process and known risks.
Keep documentation close to the people who use it. A perfect Visio diagram nobody can find is corporate origami.
Review documentation after changes. Old documentation is sometimes worse than no documentation because it lies with confidence.
